Most Road to Hana tours keep you inside a closed coach. This one does the opposite. You ride in Maui’s only open-air, safari-style Jeep, so the rainforest, the coastline, and the fresh island air are right there with you the entire day. It is a private tour for your group alone, which means no strangers, no rigid timetable, and the freedom to linger wherever you like.
Your guide knows this road by heart. Together you will roll through Paia Town, pull over for waterfalls and photo stops, wander beneath rainbow eucalyptus trees, and reach the famous black sand beach at Wai‘anapanapa. Want to swim a little longer, grab banana bread from a favorite stand, or skip a stop entirely? Just say the word. The day is built around what your group wants to see and do.
This is a small, family-run tour, and that personal touch is the whole point. You are not a seat number here, you are part of the ‘ohana for the day, seeing the Road to Hana the way it was meant to be experienced.
Because this is a private, customizable tour, your exact stops can flex with the weather, the season, and what your group is most excited to see.

The Jeep is open-air, so bring a light layer for cooler or rainy stretches and plenty of reef-safe sunscreen. Pack a swimsuit and towel for the waterfall and beach swim stops, and bring cash for lunch, banana bread, and roadside treats.
The tour meets for a park-and-meet pickup at Island Fresh Cafe at 8:00 AM, with coffee, light snacks, and breakfast available there at your own expense. Pickup from the Kahului cruise ship port can be arranged by request. Drop-off is at your original meeting location at the end of the day. Please reach out ahead of time to confirm your meeting time and details.
Ohana Jeep Cruz is run by Roger and Heidi Ward. Roger grew up in Paia on Maui’s North Shore and has spent more than twenty years driving and exploring the Hana Highway. After sharing the journey with so many friends and family who told him he should do it for a living, he and Heidi launched the tour to show visitors the real Road to Hana. When you ride along, you become part of their ‘ohana for the day.
This tour travels on rough and winding roads for much of the day. It is not recommended for pregnant women or for guests with back problems or a tendency toward motion sickness. If you are prone to car sickness, plan ahead and bring whatever helps you travel comfortably.
