How long does the Road to Hana take?
Plan for a full day. The drive is only about 64 miles each way, but with more than 600 curves, 50-plus one-lane bridges, and dozens of stops worth making, most tours run 6 to 12 hours. Our guided tours pace the day so you see the highlights without feeling rushed.
Should I drive myself or take a guided tour?
Both are great, and it comes down to how you like to travel. A guided bus or private tour lets you relax, hear the stories, and skip the stress of the narrow road. A car or jeep rental gives you total freedom to linger wherever you like. Compare your options on our comparison page.
What are the must-see stops along the way?
Favorites include Twin Falls, the Ke'anae Peninsula, Waiānapanapa Black Sand Beach, Wailua Falls, the Hana Lava Tube, and Hamoa Beach. Our guides know the timing that beats the crowds at each one. See the full list on our Hana Stops page.
Is hotel pickup included?
Hotel pickup is available on our bus and private tours from most Kahului, Kihei, Wailea, and Lahaina-area hotels. Pickup is not included with self-drive rentals. Just ask when you book and we will confirm the logistics.
What should I bring?
Bring a swimsuit, a towel, closed-toe shoes, a light rain jacket, sunscreen, bug spray, water, and snacks. The windward side is lush and can be wet, so layers help. Don't forget your camera.
Is the Road to Hana good for kids and families?
Yes. Guided tours are very family-friendly, with comfortable transport and built-in stops. Let us know who is coming and we will recommend the best option and pacing for your group.
Can I do the Road to Hana from Oahu?
Yes. Our Inter-Island from Oahu option flies you to Maui, takes you along the Hana Highway with a guide, and returns you the same day, all without changing hotels.
